ASME’s Education Research Committee are please to announce the finalists of the 2022 round of the RPA. Applicants were requested to submit their research paper describing research that was complete at time of submission. The submissions were judged against the following criteria: Novelty of subject matter or approach within the field of medical education research. Contribution to the field of medical education research.A clear statement of rationale with a relevant gap in literature identified.Clearly stated research question(s) and/or aims and objectives that are in concordance with the research design.Clear rationale for the methodological / theoretical approach taken.Findings from results clearly reported and the new knowledge generated by the study clearly stated.Relevant discussion and justified conclusions presented with recommendations and / or relevance to practice outlinedThe paper/submission should be unpublished at the time of application as it has to be original With all submissions being of high quality, the award assessors awarded finalists places to...

Researching Medical Education is a one-day conference for all those interested in medical and clinical education research. The conference is designed and run by the Association for the Study of Medical Education’s Education Research Committee. This year's theme of agility and flexibility reflects important characteristics of successful clinical education research at any time, not just during a global pandemic. The process of research rarely goes completely to plan and can be influenced by factors beyond the researcher's control. RME 2021 presents an opportunity to share and discuss research approaches that allow for adaptation and to consider the practical and ethical implications of maintaining flexibility in research.   The Research Paper Award is hosted each year by the Education Research Committee (ERC) and is underpinned by the ASME goal of promotion of high-quality research into medical education. The shortlisted finalists for this prestigious award presented their papers at the ASME Annual Scholarship Meeting (ASM) on Friday 9th July 2021 as part of the virtual conference programme. Judged by a panel of ERC committee members and watched by the virtual delegates, the finalists presented their research papers followed by a Q&A with the virtual audience. The Interim Chair of the Education Research Committee, Dr Alison Ledger, would like to bring to your attention vacancies that have arisen on the ERC.   There are 3 places available on the committee from 1st June 2021 for a period of 3 years, with an opportunity to be re-elected for a second term thereafter.   These positions are open to any individual member of ASME who wishes to self-nominate. We are looking for people who: are research enthusiasts who wish to develop medical education research and its communitieshave time to commit to the ERC and actively work on the ERC agenda by developing, designing and delivering on key strategies   We particularly welcome applicants from diverse and under-represented backgrounds.   The time commitment for this role varies significantly across the year, clustered around two key events (ASME Annual Scholarship Meeting (ASM) in July and Researching Medical Education (RME) Conference in November).
