ASME Mindfulness in Medical Education Research Award 2021
One of the intentions of the ASME special interest group Mindfulness in Medical Education is to support the undertaking and dissemination of wellbeing-related research. The ASME-MiME research award is designed to provide a student of healthcare (undergraduate student or postgraduate student in training) with the opportunity to undertake a piece of research related to mindfulness and wellbeing in medical education.
This is in recognition for the need for further high-quality research-based evidence related to wellbeing in medical education. It also recognises the need to change the perception of wellbeing in medical education. Mental health problems including stress, depression, burnout, and vicarious trauma are not uncommon amongst healthcare workers. Such issues have been highlighted further this year by the COVID pandemic. By addressing our mental health needs directly, promoting ways of cultivating resilience and wellbeing within our healthcare workforce and founding and promoting an environment within healthcare which is supportive of such attitudes and practices, we may be able to turn the current tide of mental health problems which are present amongst healthcare professionals.
Applications up to the value of £500 and up to 12 months in duration will be considered. The award is designed to cover expenses involved in undertaking the research and so wage support will not be covered by this award. You will be provided with academic support from an identified member of the ERC, MiME (or TASME/ JASME) but you should have an associated academic base as your main support (i.e. NHS organisation of academic institution) and should have identified a supervisor within your host organization to guide and supervise your work. We would expect the successful candidate to present their proposal at the MiME sharing day in 2021 and apply for an oral presentation of their work at the 2022 ASME ASM.
All ASME members (individual and staff at institutions who are members of ASME - you can check this here) who are based in the UK will be eligible to apply, provided their organisation is capable of fulfilling the role of a research sponsor (e.g. an NHS organisation or academic institution). The deadline for 2021 applications is 5pm, Saturday 19th June 2021
ASME particularly welcomes applicants from diverse and under-represented backgrounds.
