We are delighted to announce that the call for abstracts for our upcoming 2021 Annual Scholarship Meeting (ASM) is now open! This year’s ASM will be a virtual conference, which will take place over two days, Thursday 8th – Friday 9th July. We are all testament to the fact that the way we teach and work was significantly disrupted during 2020. In keeping with this, the theme for this year’s ASM is 'Disrupted Medical Education - challenging the norms of medical education’. Have you found new and innovative ways to deliver medical education? If so, we want to hear from you! What do you think is next for medical and health professions education?

What do I need to submit?

Authors must submit abstracts as a 2-minute video with a 100 word text summary, which will support the video detailing the salient points of your research – background, methods and results. You can also provide a maximum of 3 references.

Why submit an abstract?

All accepted abstract authors will be invited to take part in a chaired discussion session under the theme they submitted.

There are also many other benefits for accepted abstract authors:

  • Video abstract streamed on the virtual conference platform
  • Abstract published in The Clinical Teacher Journal supplement
  • Abstract published in the conference papers on the ASME website and app
  • Certificate of participation

In addition to this, a selection of accepted authors will have the opportunity to present their research as a Prestigious Oral Presentation (POP) during the themed discussion session.

What is a video abstract?

Video abstracts offer a creative and engaging method to convey your research. They allow authors to demonstrate research and scholarly activities physically, illustrate complex theoretical phenomena through practical demonstrations, introduce viewers to the equipment and tools used in research and engage with the audience in a more informal manner. If you have visual data such as simulations or animations, video abstracts are a good place to showcase them and explain their implications in real time. The key is to be creative and make full use of the audio-visual medium!
